Sunday, November 20, 2011Countertop Water Coolers - Fresh Water at Your CommandCountertop Water Coolers - Fresh Water at Your CommandCountertop water coolers are a convenient solution for homes or offices where there is not enough room for a large refrigerator with a built-in water dispenser. They offer constant access to chilled fresh water, take up little room, and cost less in the long run than buying bottled water. They may also be a smart buy for a person with limited mobility who does not have easy access to a kitchen, for example someone in a residential care arrangement. Better Than Tap Water? A countertop water cooler will generally incorporate a water filtration system that removes the taste and odor of chlorine, and filters out impurities and minerals found in the water supply such as copper, lead and benzene. This has obvious health advantages, and the pleasant taste of filtered water encourages more frequent consumption of fresh water instead of less healthy choices like soda. Using less bottled water has many environmental advantages, including less waste and a reduced carbon footprint. How Much Does It Cost? There are wide variations in the cost of countertop water coolers, depending on the features of the model chosen (some also supply hot water and/or ice). The base price of the unit is less important than the cost of the filters. When considering a purchase of any type of water filter, do some research into the cost and frequency of filter replacements, and make a comparison of annual costs. It is also worth contacting local bottled water supply companies to see if they offer a countertop water cooler, and add their quote to your comparison chart. Plumbed-in or Freestanding? Countertop water coolers either contain a tank that must be refilled, or are connected directly to the main water line for a continuous water supply. Check to see that a water connection is possible before choosing your cooler. If you want a cooler with a refillable tank, think about how you are going to refill it. Will the filled tank be too heavy or awkward to move far? You may need a smaller model if you are a long way from the faucet. Water Filter Maintenance Most home countertop water coolers need to be cleaned at least twice a year to prevent the buildup of molds and bacteria. Some of the pricier models, especially those geared towards offices, offer self-sanitizing systems, generally based on the use of ultra-violet light inside the tank. Always ask questions about cleaning and maintenance before you buy. A countertop water cooler is a sound investment, but a little research is needed to find the right one. Take the time to consider what your needs are, and write down a list of requirements before you buy. Two Systems are shown; one for absolute filth contaminated with food/water/cigarette ends/fat, and the other for visibly clear oil only (simpler system). All components are selected for cheapness and availability. The final filtration is done through vacuum cleaner bags (Henry's are good)....they can be burned for fuel when clogged with solid fats (see FATLOG series). Go ahead and emancipate yourself from fuel slavery. Other guidance (you must verify as current and valid) Currently in the UK you do not require a 'Waste Carriers Licence' if you are collecting for your own use; you can use 2500L/yr before registeing with HMCE to pay duty (about 30p/L), but you must keep a record of what you have used. Oy Vey! I Need a Drink!Tap Water Vs Bottled Water - Should We Bottle the Tap Or Tap the Bottle? Oy Vey! I Need a Drink! Is tap water cleaner than bottled water? Most would probably say "No." After all, do you get flyers from your water utility with pictures of snow-capped mountains and streams of gurgling water flowing over rocks into crystal clear, bubbling pools? Nah, you just get a bill. So, let's strip away the marketing bunk and tally some comparison points. In Cleveland, Ohio, researchers took tap water samples from four processing plants and compared them with five types of bottled water. 1. If tooth decay is a concern, bottled water failed the fluoride tests with only 5% falling within the recommended range. The tap water was okay. Tap, 1 point. Tap water is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and they require enough chlorine to be added to the water to kill ALL bacteria. Bottled water, whose source is often from the tap (see label of Pepsi's Aquafina), is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and they allow bottlers some contamination by E. coli or fecal coliform. Ewww! Sewage! Yuck! Ptooey! 2. While neither result is acceptable, the outcomes reflect the differences in regulation. Two-thirds of the bottled water had lower bacterial counts than the tap water samples, but, 25 percent of the bottled water had 10 times more bacteria than tap water. Tap, 2 points. 3. Lead leaching from supply pipes or fixtures can be a major concern for tap water users, whereas, bottled water is sealed and remains unchanged after processing. Bottled, 1 point. Chlorine, mandated by the EPA, is a poison that transforms itself into a class of chemical carcinogens in the presence of organic materials. These carcinogens have been directly linked to heart disease and cancer. 4. Danger from chlorine, along with the water's foul taste and smell, is the main reason why most people prefer bottled water vs tap water. Bottled, 2 points. The EPA and the FDA have identical standards regarding acceptable levels of pharmaceutical drugs. They have none. Some water utilities test for a few drugs but none remove them. None of the bottlers test their final product for drugs (that I am aware of), but some have filtering processes that would remove some drugs. Following recent events on Wall Street, I have full confidence our Government and Wall Street will demand testing for pharmaceutical drugs in our water supplies once we all have long flowing beards, high-pitched voices and are growing a few extra body parts. 5. Bottled water gets an edge here since some bottlers use filter systems which do remove some drugs. Bottled, 3 points. Those same filters, however, remove trace minerals, such as calcium, magnesium and potassium, essential to good health. If these minerals are not added back, water is flat tasting and unhealthy to drink. Unhealthy because the water becomes slightly acidic, and when we consume an acid substance, our bodies will take calcium from our teeth and bones to produce bicarbonate in order to neutralize the acid. 6. In light of the above comments related to minerals, and the fact that various studies suggest cancer can only grow in an acid environment, it's another point for tap water. Tap, 3 points. The U.S. produces 70 million empty plastic water bottles every day, using enough oil in a year to keep 100,000 cars on the road. Landfills are overwhelmed with these bottles. It's estimated that over 60 million of them go to landfills every day. 7. Add in the eco-costs for manufacturing, trucking, shelving and marketing and it's another point for tap water. Tap, 4 points. Big oil companies buy oil leases from our government, explore for oil, drill, pump, transport to refineries, refine, store, transport to gas stations, pay huge taxes and deliver a reliable product for under .00 a gallon. Bottled water folks, turn a tap, filter the water (maybe), fill the bottle, take it to the store, pay taxes and deliver a questionable product at a very high price. 8. The cheapest bottled water I found at the store today was .82 on a per gallon basis! Tap, 5 points. Okay, tap wins this little contest 5 to 3. That said, I will not knowingly drink tap water. Why? Go read number 4 again and the paragraph above it. I spend most of my day reading and writing about what's in our water and what it's doing to us, and, in my opinion, the chlorine in tap water is the primary cause of heart disease and cancer in the world today. I filter my tap water before I use it. I will use bottled water in an emergency, but it's expensive and way too "iffy" to count on. I bottle my own! Filter your tap water before you use it and bottle your own water. That way you know you are getting good, safe, water at a penny per glass, not five dollars or more a gallon. If this were true, and it is not, the aluminum would be leached and water with sugar, or artificial sweetener would become heavy. If you are concerned, add 10mg Na to each liter. Also, eating food with water, all minerals are mixed with fluid in the stomach converting distilled water into mineral water. Distilled water is not magic, if you add a splash of milk to tea made with distilled water, you now have 10x the calcium of regular mineral water. www.eves-best.com Distilled water is very good for you. The only areas it may cause a problem is developing nations that have near famine conditions. For the rest of the world who usually ingest 15x the sodium recommended, distilled water leaches salt first. ONLY IF you are salt deprived (extremely rare) will distilled water leach excess potassium and or calcium. You would need to drink about 2 gallons in 10 hours for there to be a problem. Most people can afford 7 pounds of sweat (near gallon) replaced with only water before electrolytes become an issue. At that point, electrolytes are needed regardless of water type ingested. Thursday, November 10, 2011Are Everpure Water Filters the Best Quality? Are Everpure Water Filters the Best Quality? Are Everpure water filters the best quality or the best price? If effective contaminant removal fits your definition of quality, then some of their models are of good quality, but not the best. It is easy to see that the company does not offer the best prices. Their least expensive model costs 9.99, does not remove THMs, VOCs or other cancer-causing chemicals and replacement cartridges cost over 0. Other systems remove all of those things and more, with models costing 4.99 and replacement cartridges costing . It's kind of a "no-brainer". The Everpure water filters that do provide effective contaminant removal (those that reduce THMs and other cancer-causers) cost nearly 0. Why so much? One reason is the inclusion of a reverse osmosis step. Technological advancements have made this step an unnecessary expense, but some manufacturers still include it. At one time, reverse osmosis was the best way to remove cysts and lead. It was used in areas where the mineral content was high, arsenic was present or salt was a problem. But, Everpure water filters were not designed for use in rural areas that might have these kinds of problems. They were designed for use by people that are serviced by a public treatment facility. Reverse osmosis does not remove the cancer-causing chemical contaminants mentioned above, so Ever-pure and companies like them added additional steps to address those issues. They still don't use the most advanced technologies, though, so their prices are high. Today, even the least expensive systems on the market will remove cysts. You only need to shop for a system that is certified to filter down to one micron. The best systems filter down to a half a micron. Cysts, as you may know, cause waterborne illnesses that can be deadly to those with poorly functioning immune systems. They are tiny parasitic creatures that are resistant chlorine and other disinfection methods. Inexpensive systems will also remove lead, using ion exchange. If you compare product performance data, you will see that some systems remove more than 99% of all traces of the hazardous heavy metal. Ion exchange also improves the taste of your water, by exchanging metallic ions for sodium and potassium ions. It makes your water taste like it came from a spring. Many bottling companies add these minerals to improve the taste. Water from systems that include a reverse osmosis step is relatively tasteless. To most people, it makes them think of old or stale waters. Our taste-buds recognize freshness by recognizing the taste of minerals. We prefer cold water, because it is less likely to contain bacteria. Everpure water filters only reduce lead by about 98%. The company documents state that lead is reduced to the "federal action level". That level is not considered safe for regular long-term consumption. No amount of lead, regardless of how tiny, is safe for consumption. Wednesday, November 9, 2011Fluoride Filters - Reverse Osmosis Or Activated Alumina Water Filters?Fluoride Filters - Reverse Osmosis Or Activated Alumina Water Filters? There are a couple of ways you can remove fluoride from your water at home. One of these is with a reverse osmosis water filter. These are usually installed under your kitchen sink and they work by forcing water through a membrane that blocks fluoride from passing through so the water that is collected on the other side is free from fluoride and many other contaminants. The second way to remove fluoride from your drinking water is by using an activated alumina cartridge. This type of fluoride water filter is smaller and sits on your counter top. It is also much less expensive than a reverse osmosis water filter. Why would you want to remove fluoride from your drinking water? If you have children, they can develop dental fluorosis if they consume too much fluoride while their teeth are developing. Children are at risk for this condition up until they are eight years old. Most children with fluorosis have mild cases which appear as white spots and lines on the teeth that are not too noticeable. Severe cases are less common but these cases can have symptoms of pitted and cracked teeth that are stained brown or black. Fluoride is also linked to a number of other ailments such as increased risk of cancer and possibly even Alzheimer's disease. Fluoride is actually a pollutant, being created as a by product of iron, copper and aluminum manufacturing. It has even been used as a rat poison and insecticide. Many think there is no clear link between fluoride and decreased dental cavities. Whether you want to consume water with fluoride is a personal decision. But since most municipal water supplies in the United States have fluoride added, if you want to drink water without it, you will have to use a fluoride filter to get it out. Boiling water will not remove fluoride, it only concentrates it. Fluoride cannot be removed through distillation either. You should know that bottled water may also have fluoride unless it states on the label it has been filtered using reverse osmosis. Price may be a deciding factor when trying to choose between the two types of fluoride filters. Reverse osmosis water filters are much more expensive than activated alumina cartridges. Expect to spend a few hundred dollars for a reverse osmosis system while you can pick up an alumina cartridge for well under 0. Consider also if you need other contaminants removed from your water. A high quality reverse osmosis system can remove chlorine and E-coli along with many other impurities. Become aware of all of your choices before selecting your water filtration system. Water filters have their advantages and disadvantages, which you choose depends a lot upon the source of your drinking water. luxury men s watches reviews krups la glaciere ice cream maker Princess Waffle Maker Culligan S1A Level 2 20 Micron Sediment Replacement Cartridge 2 PackList Price : $8.99 Sale Price : $6.26 Culligan S1A Level 2 20 Micron Sediment Replacement Cartridge 2 Pack OverviewS1 A replacement sediment filter cartridge removes dirt, sand, silt, rust, and scale particles. 20 micron (nominal) filtration. Monday, November 7, 2011Home Drinking Water Filters - How to Choose?Home Drinking Water Filters - How to Choose?A home water filter fulfills the task of separating the unwanted harmful particles from the contaminated water, by various ways. Unfiltered water is can potentially be saddled with bacteria which are the prime causes for diarrhea, cancer, skin irritation, etc. Chlorine is often found in water supply as chlorine can combat various harmful microbes that are found in the water pipes. Albeit chlorine can do wonders by killing those deadly microbes but when it reaches our body, it can do considerable amount of damage, by giving birth to dry skin, bad hair and other type of diseases. This is where home water filters comes to our rescue by removing the unwanted chlorine from the water. So how do water filters work? The answer largely depends on the type of purification method used for home water filters. Purification methods primarily consist of reverse osmosis, granular carbon, ion exchange, sub micron filtration and multi media block as a procedure to eliminate all type of contaminants. A home water filter which utilizes the method of reverse osmosis functions by forcing the water through a layer which is semi porous in nature. Particles which are smaller in size than the semi porous layer will pass out of the same. And larger contaminated particles will get blocked in the layer and prevent it from being by us. The method of granular carbon is based on the theory of absorption. Harmful chemicals like chlorine get attached to the granular carbon and it is one of the most effective ways to combat chlorine through the use of home filters. Home water filter that uses ion exchange as its purification method relies heavily on the theory of magnetism. Particles like lead are found in the supply water which has the capacity to induce various health problems. So it is imperative to get rid of them. Since metallic substances carry a nominal amount of electrical charge, it can get blocked in an area that contains the opposite electrical charge. And ion exchange works on this theory. Harmful particles such as lead are eradicated by our home water filters. If you are looking for a cheaper option then home water filter which uses sub micron filtration as its purifying method will perfectly suit your needs. Its function is similar to the reverse osmosis process albeit the cost is much lower. Multi media block attracts chemicals such as trihalomethane and volatile organic compounds, which are one of the causes for cancer. Multi media block used in home filters are made of carbon and other elements so that they can easily attract all the harmful chemicals. For home filters to work effectively it should use all the above mentioned steps so that every type of contaminants can be eliminated from the water.

Essential for water-based paints which must be applied at a temperature between 20 -- 25° C, it is also fundamental for solvent-based paints. It is the only product on the market that lets you simultaneously heat air, filter it in three stages (water, oil, residual humidity) and regenerate silica reversing the hot air flow through the SRS valve. The Walcom TD³ can work with two types of hoses: * SPH, made of 10x15 galvanised rubber, with internal J thermocouple to read air temperature at gun stock. 11 mt. length. * HPH, made of 10x22 galvanised rubber, with internal J thermocouple to read air temperature at gun stock and with 3 150 W resistances, each permitting the set temperature to be immediately reached and maintained, regardless of hose use during the day. 10 mt. length. Friday, November 4, 2011Use GE Water Filters to Clean Up Well WaterUse GE Water Filters to Clean Up Well WaterMost people have an opinion about the water quality in their home. Residents serviced by a well may have pristine water or water that smells like rust or rotten eggs. Bathing in this type of water is especially frustrating when the pleasant scent of shampoo begins to resemble rusty eggs more than strawberries. Equally frustrating is turning on the tap water to fill your glass and being greeted by the scent of metal and sulfur. It is embarrassing enough when this happens at family dinners but it can be horrifying when special guests have been invited to enjoy a meal at your home. The misery of poor water quality can be solved with some help from GE water filters and a whole house filtration system. For starters, a home water filtration system will extend the life of your appliances, plumbing fixtures, and make bathing much more enjoyable. All water has some level of hardness unless it has been purified by reverse osmosis. Hardness is simply a measurement of the mineral content found in a particular sample of water. These minerals are generally calcium and magnesium among other things. A whole house filtration system will remove the minerals by swapping them out with sodium ions in a process called ion exchange. The result is known as soft water. Softened water is very safe to drink though some do prefer to go one step further by using a water filter or a reverse osmosis system. Reverse osmosis systems will remove everything from the water while GE water filters will remove a significant amount of chlorine and minerals. An iron water filter may be necessary if the iron is not satisfactorily removed in the softening process. Improving the taste and quality of your water is somewhat of a process. Each situation is unique and while a Brita water filter in conjunction with a home water filtration system may solve most problems it will not fix every problem especially if the water has excessive iron content. There is enough equipment on the market to tackle every issue and one should feel some sense of encouragement that there is a solution. The solution however could be quite costly but in the end well worth the peace of mind.

Disposal of radioactive debris to go ahead A panel on nuclear waste disposal has decided to allow municipalities to burn highly radioactive debris if they have incinerators that can remove radioactive substances. The panel was set up by the environment ministry. Members of the expert panel made the decision on Sunday. The ministry measured radioactive substances on debris inside Fukushima Prefecture at collection posts, excluding areas such as those in a 20-kilometer radius no-entry zone. It had already decided to allow 10 municipalities where radiation levels are relatively low to resume usual methods of disposal, such as burning and burying. On Sunday the panel discussed ways to dispose of highly radioactive debris in the areas. The participants agreed, in principle, to allow municipalities to burn debris highly contaminated with radioactive substances if their incinerators have filters or electric dust cleaners to remove the substances. The environment ministry will inform these municipalities of the decision by the end of June, after checking the capabilities of each facility. The panel also agreed that the ministry and the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency should measure the radioactivity of debris inside the 20-kilometer radius no-entry-zone and evacuation zones where monitoring has not been conducted.
